Residents of Kadjebi Hail Government’s Fuel Price Reduction as a Lifeline

Kadjebi, Oti Region – A wave of relief has swept through the community of Kadjebi following the government's recent directive to lower fuel prices. Local residents have voiced strong approval for the decision, calling it a necessary and well-timed intervention that offers respite to both families and business owners.

In interviews with the Ghana News Agency, several community members highlighted the tangible impact the price cut is expected to have on their daily lives.

Modestus Agyemang, a local mason, explained that the move would significantly lower the costs of transportation and building materials, which had seen steep hikes in recent months due to high fuel expenses. He noted that artisans like himself have been struggling to manage rising operational costs, and the reduced fuel price will allow them to offer more competitive service rates, potentially attracting more clients.

Entrepreneur Eva Agbovi echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the positive ripple effect on small-scale trading and distribution businesses. She pointed out that transport costs are a major part of her operational budget and expressed optimism that lower fuel prices would eventually lead to cheaper goods and services for consumers. Agbovi praised the government for heeding public concerns but urged authorities to ensure that fuel stations strictly adhere to the new pricing so that the benefits reach ordinary citizens.

Samuel Kumah, a teacher, described the decision as a step in the right direction for salaried workers burdened by a rising cost of living. While welcoming the relief, he called on fuel station operators to comply fully with the directive to ensure the intended economic reprieve is realized.

Commercial drivers in the area also shared their hopes that the price reduction would lead to a downward review of transport fares. Overall, residents collectively called for consistent and sustained measures to keep fuel prices stable, protect local livelihoods, and support broader economic growth.

The fuel price cut directive was issued by the Cabinet following a meeting on Thursday, April 9. The Finance and Energy Ministers were instructed to implement the reduction to cushion Ghanaians from the global fuel price surge triggered by the ongoing US/Israel conflict with Iran.
