INTERPOL Officers Reportedly Deployed to Tema Harbour for Vehicle Inspections

Officers from the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) have been spotted at the Tema Harbour conducting inspections on vehicles, sparking speculation about a new security measure at Ghana’s premier port.

A video circulating on social media platform X on Saturday, 28 March 2026, shows individuals in uniforms bearing the "INTERPOL" insignia examining a vehicle. The footage has led to widespread conjecture that the officials have been stationed at the port to scrutinize incoming vehicles for possible theft before they are cleared for entry into the country.

Sources suggest the move is part of enhanced security efforts to curb the importation of stolen vehicles. It is believed that individuals found in possession of such vehicles could face prosecution. The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) is also understood to have intensified its crackdown on buyers of stolen vehicles imported from abroad.

As of the time of publication, authorities at the Tema Harbour have not officially commented on the deployment or clarified the scope of the operation.

INTERPOL, headquartered in Lyon, France, is the world’s largest international police organization, with 196 member countries. It facilitates cross-border police cooperation, enabling law enforcement agencies to share data and combat organized crime, terrorism, and cybercrime, while also supporting border security efforts.
