Ketu North, Ghana – March 29, 2026 – Feasibility studies are underway for a new 24-hour economy market project in the Ketu North Municipality, as consultants and local officials have completed site visits to three proposed locations.
The assessment team, led by Municipal Chief Executive Reverend Martin Amenaki alongside representatives from the consulting firm PPMC International, inspected the sites to determine their suitability for the “Model Three” 24-hour market concept.
According to Rev. Amenaki, the Municipal Assembly initially put forward a six-acre parcel of land situated along a major roadway. However, following discussions with community members and local leaders, an alternative idea emerged to redevelop the existing central market, aiming to boost accessibility and economic vibrancy.
The first site evaluated was the current old market, which spans approximately 1.92 acres. Consultants quickly noted that this falls short of the project’s minimum requirement of three acres needed to accommodate essential features like parking, shops, and other facilities. Rev. Amenaki further explained that ongoing construction and road reservations in the area could shrink the usable space even more, making the site likely unsuitable.
The team then moved to a second location in the Dzeshime area. While strategically positioned, this site measures roughly 1.98 acres, still below the required threshold. The originally proposed six-acre plot remains the third option under consideration.
Kwasi Aboagye of PPMC International, the lead consultant for the project, outlined the features planned for the “Model Three” market. These include retail shops, a banking hall, a police post, a daycare center, open trading sheds, and a dedicated car park.
“We have asked the Assembly to submit layout plans for the three sites. Based on that, we will determine the most suitable and viable location for the project,” Mr. Aboagye stated. He added that while the ideal land size is between two and three acres, smaller sites could still be viable with creative design adjustments. “If the land is a little less than two acres, we will assess how best to manage it to meet the project’s requirements,” he noted.
The final site selection is expected once the consultants review the detailed layout plans from the Assembly. The proposed 24-hour market is part of broader efforts to enhance continuous economic activity and improve commercial infrastructure in the Ketu North Municipality.
