Ghanaian Actor Agya Koo Launches “Ghana First Party” as New Political Force

Accra, Ghana – April 12, 2026 – Veteran actor and former New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporter Agya Koo has officially unveiled a new political movement, named the **Ghana First Party**, vowing to break the long-standing duopoly of the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The announcement, made in a media interview over the weekend, marks a significant shift for the popular filmmaker, who has been an active campaigner for the NPP in the past, notably backing Kennedy Agyapong during the party’s presidential primaries.

According to Agya Koo, the country’s political landscape has been dominated for too long by the two major parties, leaving little room for alternative voices. He argued that this cycle has led to a neglect of key segments of the population, particularly ordinary traders and the tourism sector.

“We all know that the two biggest political parties, the NPP and the NDC, always dominate the political space. As a result, if it’s not NPP, then NDC will win power. That is why we have thought about it to bring a third force to compete with them,” Agya Koo stated.

He further explained that the **Ghana First Party** is being designed as a coalition that prioritizes the everyday needs of citizens over partisan politics. He emphasized that preparations are already underway across all sixteen regions of the country to build a grassroots structure for the new movement.

“We are bringing a party that thinks about the traders, a party that can bring tourism and all developments,” the actor added, positioning his party as a pragmatic alternative focused on economic empowerment and national growth.

Agya Koo’s entry into the political fray comes at a time when some Ghanaians have expressed frustration with the existing political status quo. While he has not yet announced whether he will be the party’s flagbearer, the launch of the Ghana First Party signals a potential realignment in the lead-up to future elections.

The actor’s move from entertainment to political leadership has already sparked public debate, with many watching to see whether his celebrity status can translate into a credible third-force challenge against the established political giants.
