Effiakuma, Western Region – A shocking video has emerged showing a local assemblyman in Ghana's Western Region allegedly forcing two teenagers to engage in a sexual act as a form of punishment, sparking widespread outrage.
The incident, which has gone viral on social media, implicates Edward Senam Azaliko, the Assemblyman for the Effiakuma West electoral area. According to reports, Mr. Azaliko confronted a 16-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl after allegedly finding them in a "compromising state."
Instead of involving their families or the appropriate authorities, the assemblyman is accused of taking the law into his own hands in a deeply disturbing manner. The video, believed to have been recorded by Mr. Azaliko or someone acting with him, shows the two minors in an uncompleted building.
In the footage, the boy is seen with his shorts pulled down, positioned over the girl who is lying on the ground. The assemblyman can be heard wielding a belt and issuing explicit and coercive commands. He is heard whipping the boy and ordering him to proceed with the act, threatening further beatings if he does not comply.
“You think you are smart. Take off your shorts, and do it quickly before I let you go,” he is heard saying in the video. He then allegedly turned his attention to the young girl, instructing her, “You, too, take off your dress and open your legs for him. Do it, or else I will use the belt on you. Do it, and kiss him as well.”
The assemblyman reportedly stated that the punishment would only stop if the girl confirmed the act had been completed. “If she says it has entered, I’ll stop beating you, but if not, you’ll be beaten till the next day,” he added. The background audio of the video contains sounds of individuals, believed to be onlookers, laughing at the scene.
The video has been met with widespread condemnation on social media, with many Ghanaians expressing horror and calling for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the assemblyman. Critics argue that his actions constitute a serious abuse of power, child abuse, and sexual assault, far exceeding any acceptable form of discipline.
The victim is a 13-year-old minor, making the alleged actions a grave violation of child protection laws. As of the time of this report, there has been no official statement from Mr. Azaliko or the local assembly regarding the incident. Calls are mounting for the Ghana Police Service and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate the matter urgently.
